Judging on Apperance
Justin Tipton What is the first thing we do when meeting a first. We judge! Judging someone based on their appearance is an inherent human instinct. Many times when people judge a person, people end up making wrong decisions. We create mental images in our minds that categories people based upon their appearance. When you see a man in a suit, tie, and a briefcase you figure is a lawyer, professor, or a businessman. In reality the guy that you see could have been out for a special event and could be no more than a car mechanic. We base our opinions on perceptions on people based upon what we can biologically see with our eyes.In her article how the eye works Ker Than explain how we use our eyes to visually see things. ââ¬Å"Vision begin when lights rays are reflected off an object and enter the eyes through the cornea, The transparent outer covering of the eyes. The cornea refracts the rays that pass through a round hole, called the pupil. The Irish is the colored portion of the eye that surrounds the pupil, and then become larger or smaller to regulate the amount of light passing through. The rays then travel through the lenses to the retina at the back of the eye. The retina conducts light into electrical impulses. The optic nerve sends impulses to the brain where a visual image or perception is produced. â⬠We use our eye to visually see people, and to make an array of judgment about that person based on what we see. While itââ¬â¢s true we can come times tell certain thing about people by looking at their external appearance, it is not the best of measurements. I believe people should not judge people by their external appearance, and should at least speak with a person before making a judgment. You canââ¬â¢t judge a person character base on appearance and that why many of us make unfair and bias assumption of others.People sometimes change their appearance to fit different situations. According to a Washington post article, Joshua bell one of the world greatest violinists set out to do an experiment to test peopleââ¬â¢s perception on appearance. By most, he was nondescript: a youngish white man in jeans, a long sleeved t-shirt and Washington National baseball cap. He positioned himself against a wall beside a trash basket, from a case; he moved his violin and began to play. It was a Friday and the middle of morning rush hour. The violinist played for nearly an hour, and performed six classical pieces.Nearly 1,100 people passed by, many of them on their way to work. No one knew it, but the fiddler standing against a bare wall outside was one of the finest classical musicians in the world, playing some of the most elegant music ever written on one of the most valuable violins ever made. In the hour that Joshua Bell played, seven people stooped what they were doing to hang around and take in the performance, at least for minute. Twenty-seven gave money, for a total of thirty-two dollars and seventeen cents. That means over 1 ,070 people passed on by, with few even turning to look.Three days before conducting this experiment on a street corner in Washington, Joshua bell filled the house at Bostonââ¬â¢s stately symphony Hall, where the average seat went for one-hundred dollars. the appearance of a guy in plain clothes playing a violin at the street corner, made many people ignore his sound before ever even taking the time to listen. Many times people judge what they see, and ignore the beauty that right in front of their face. To begin with, someone external appearance is not mirror of oneââ¬â¢s inner self. I can relate to from examples in my own life.Being a young African-American male, growing up near Memphis one of Americas most dangerous cities. I came from a poorer family, I been working full time since attending college. In the day time I was a college student, but at work I was a normal sweaty and dirty factory worker. When people saw me at work, they assumed I was uneducated and not very int elligent. In reality, I was a good academic student, has a good reputation among my fellow students and professors. My co-workers couldnââ¬â¢t see the college side of me, and many of my fellow students couldnââ¬â¢t see working in a factory which was known for harsh working conditions.Since leaving the factory, I know have a security job just outside of downtown Nashville. TRICOR is the name of the corporation is profits in the million, by utilizing inmates for production and paying their cheap labor wages. This cooperation is ran by your typical CEO, a short old white man, that dresses in suits and ties and owns many expenses vehicles. For many months while working there, he passed by me every day and never once he even acknowledging my presence. One day I was reading a book about written from a famous entrepreneur, and the boom caught the eye of the CEO.He walked up to me and asked why I reading a book like that, I told I was a college student that was a business major, and t hat it has beneficial information in this nook, and that I read many book from this author. He then brought to my attention that he has read the same book and he too was a fan of the author books. After conversation for a few minutes he then brought to my attention that he too grew up from a poor family, and that he also work at a factory and once at a security job while too attending college. I am a business management major and he too has a degree in business management .Ever since that day of our conversation he speak to me daily, and we hold brief but interesting conversation often. Prior to that conversation we had never spoken to another, once we looked past the external appearance, we realized we two men who shared many things in common. You may not realize it, but perception based on appearance happen all the time. Studies show that fifty-five percent of opinion of a person is based upon physical appearance, and that it takes around fifteen second for a person to realize if he or she like your or not, or want to do business with you.Do honestly we feel like we get accurate of someone inner self with over half of what we perceive come from appearance, and while only judging them for one-fourth of a minute? Many people believe that judging people on the appearance is beneficial and effective. Mangers often use appearance as a asset while evaluating a candidate for a job. You could have two good candidates with impressive resume, but choosing a candidate based on race, or which dressed too me is ineffective. In reality just because one candidate is dressed better, doesnââ¬â¢t make him any smarter or better qualified than the other. When it comes to judging a lover or friend, external appearance shouldnââ¬â¢t be a factor on your judgment about that person. Much time we see that a man or women date someone because she is beautiful and he is handsome. In high school and college you see on many occasions when someone hangs around a certain person because it will increase his/her popularity. In a poem I once read it state ââ¬Å"we see best when we look for the lessâ⬠. In just a few words, that poem speaks a lot, we see the best when look past the artificial obvious, and see the beauty that deep within a person.Beauty and the Beast just a fairy tale and a kidââ¬â¢s story but moral of this tale has such a deeper meaning. The story about a beautiful women falling in love with an ugly beast, passed artificial obvious and see the beauty that lied deep within him. Making a judgment on some based only external appearance is an unfair and accurate judgment of someone. It is not accurate to judge someone based on we biologically see wit our eyes. A appearance can adjust and change their appearance to fit many different situation where there true selves do not show, but a person cannot change his/her character. For these reason, it is important to get to know someone before making a judgment. ââ¬Å"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touchedâ⬠. ââ¬Å"But must be felt by the heartâ⬠. The best and most beautiful things in people cannot be seen by the eyes. Judging someone on external appearance is an inherent and instinct that happen almost instantaneously. We as people have the ability to control our judgment, we have the ability to use our minds to see more within people than what we see with our eyes.Stero-typing is something we do without even noticing, but placing people into different categories based on external appearance limits our ability to meet new people. Sometimes the people that we expect knot to have anything in common with, could be a totally false assumption. If we allow ourselves to judge and meet people of different culture, many would be surprised to know they share many things in common with people they would have never suspected. As long as people allow ourselves to be blinded by external appearance then we will fully see the inner beauty within so m any people.

Crucible Allusions
One allusion Miller used is New Jerusalem, meaning the holy city of heaven in the Bible. I believe Miller used this allusion in order to show us how his characters viewed their land in America. They believed that they were the ones who were selected by God to find this New Jerusalem. But I also think Miller had intentions to make this allusion ironic because when they Puritans came to America to pursue religious freedom because they were persecuted for their beliefs in England. However, they also persecuted others for having different religious views because they thought that other religions would corrupt and bring deceitful ideas to their New Jerusalem. I also believe Miller used this allusion to show the vengeance of the Puritans, since they felt the need to persecute because they themselves were persecuted (Miller 1237). Another allusion used by Miller is the use of Lucifer, which is the Devil. I believe Miller used Lucifer as an allusion because he wanted to express the importance that the Devil had on the characters of The Crucible.I think Miller thought this was necessary since it shows that they both need and want someone to blame for everything that is goes wrong in Salem (Miller 1260). They accuse people of being witches, who were there because of Lucifer. The use of this allusion several times throughout the Crucible suggests that the Puritans were kind of obsessed with Lucifer, thus revealing that Miller had high regards for the Salem characters religious beliefs..This also shows that vengeance was very common since envy of the miserable toward the happy resulted in revenge (Miller 1237). Martin Luther, a German theologian who led the Protestant Reformation, was another allusion Miller used in The Crucible. The reason why I believe Miller used Martin was because Martin had an experience that closely resembled that of the Salem witch trials. He too was blamed of being affiliated with Hell and accused of heresy. So Miller wanted to show that trials were not only held in Salem but in other parts of the world. In the case of Martin, he also then accused his enemies of being in an alliance with Hell, similar to how Tituba accused someone else when she was accused (Miller 1260). But for Luther, his case was more complicated in that he thought that he had contact with the Devil and argued theology with him. So I believe this allusion was ultimately used to provide similar examples of the problems that were happening in Salem. The last allusion that Miller uses is the Inquisition.I think Miller used this allusion because it sort of resembles the Salem witch hunts of The Crucible. Instead of only mentioning witch hunts in early America, he shows us other examples of people being accused of wrong doings and then blaming it on others. Pope Gregory IX proposed the Inquisition in 1231 and Catholic judges started accused people of treason and heresy (Miller 1253). In both cases there were deaths because of persecutions. So he wanted us to see the similarities between other cases of accusations, vengeances, fear, and greed.

Elementary Educator Essay
To become an instrument of education is a privilege that allows one to free ignorant minds. Next to food, clothing and shelter, education sustains an individualââ¬â¢s life. And this education has the most impact in the early years of childhood. Counting a few years into the future, I would like to have the opportunity to play an important role as an elementary educator. Early Education What we are now, what sustains us as we become adults, is the culmination of our experiences and education through the years. Education in the early stages of life is the most crucial. The things we are taught when we are young are carried over the years when we become adults. As one book title goes, ââ¬Å"all I ever need to know I learned in kindergarten,â⬠and that I believe in. At some point in our lives, we will always go back to the basics. Early education accounts for all the basic skills that we need to know ââ¬â arts, music, math, science, language and social studies. It begins with learning through play. Later on, the elementary educator becomes responsible for gradually changing the medium of instruction from games to more formal means such as classroom teaching. More depth into the subjects is now incorporated and various modes of teaching are practiced. It now involves passing on knowledge from the teacher to the student in the most effective way possible. For the most part, it is important that educators are intelligent and well-educated themselves. Not only do they need to have the desire to teach but they also need to have the desire to practice lifelong learning. Teaching entails accurate and up-to-date knowledge in the various areas of study. The daily routine involves preparing lesson plans, creating visuals, learning and teaching technology, administering examinations, evaluating presentations and overseeing activities among others. It is the educatorââ¬â¢s responsibility to pique his studentsââ¬â¢ attention and to keep them focused on the goal of learning. The responsibility, however, does not end in the technicalities of the job. Apart from formal instruction, there are other classroom duties that the educator needs to oversee wherein students can also learn (Wingo and Schorling, 6). These duties teach students to be responsible and develop soft skills such as management, leadership and organization among others. Therefore, it is also important that educators understand and are able to practice these soft skills themselves. To be considered a successful teacher, however, requires going beyond these roles and responsibilities. To be a great teacher is to provide guidance toward emotional and social maturity (Wingo and Schorling, 15). And to do this, the educatorââ¬â¢s sincerity needs to be seen by the students to inspire respect and trust. Once the respect and trust is established, the relationship will take on a higher level of confidence. Given these roles and responsibilities, it is only appropriate that those, such as me, who wish to be educators, be required to have earned at least a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree (a degree in Childhood Education is required for those who wish to teach in private institutions), completed an approved teacher training program and be licensed (Teachers par. 1). The degree ensures that the educator is equipped with the right knowledge and tools to teach. The training ensures the educator is prepared to take on the challenge that he is about to be involved in. But only experience can teach the educator establishing effective learning and personal relationships in the actual environment. Envisioning a Lifelong Career The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that 1 in 4 Americans are enrolled in educational institutions. This fact equates to 13 million jobs in the education industry. To further add to the statistics, employment is highest in elementary and secondary schools. School attendance is compulsory until age 16 ââ¬â more students, more teachers needed. As for the wages, it increases as the level of educational attainment increases. Elementary school teachers are reported to average at 43,000USD. Given these numbers from the BLS of the U. S Department of Labor, I can assess that I am looking at a promising career in the education industry. There is a demand for workers in the field given the number of students required to take early education. I am looking at job stability with this demand and its fair share of wages. In a few years, expected retirements will also create job openings. If eventually I come to the decision that I would want to move forward in my career, there is very high potential that I will be able to do so. All I need to do is pursue my studies further so I can move up the next level of teaching. The good thing about being in the education industry is that the need for learning will never cease. And the learning areas that exist are endless. There are a number of options one can have from preschool education to middle school and secondary education to vocational and special education. One can choose to be in a public or private institution. Learning becomes very rewarding because it becomes possible not only for the students but for the teacher as well. A curriculum exists to be followed but the creativity in the execution of this curriculum is left to the teacher. However, as with any other career, frustrations can arise with learning motivation problems. And it is an educatorââ¬â¢s duty to understand his students and inspire motivation (Wyse, 2). Behavioral issues are also concerns of the teacher. Even violence whether minimal or very brutal (i. e. killings as reported in the news), is possible. Handling these kinds of situations can be very tough but it is part of an educatorââ¬â¢s duties. Resolution of these problems requires the establishment of good teacher-student relationships through gaining trust and respect and the development of a healthy classroom environment. Overall, I look at being an elementary educator with more advantages than downsides. The potential for my growth in this field, given the degree that I am pursuing, is something I am looking forward to. To be able to contribute to this nationââ¬â¢s progress through honing the skills of our students and enriching their minds is an honorable achievement.
Analysis and Recomendation of Marketing strategy of Vodafone Essay
Analysis and Recomendation of Marketing strategy of Vodafone - Essay Example Strategies of an organization should well be able to detail themselves as per the needs of the environment while planning for the future. A framework for any program can well be preferred if it is deeply affinitive to the generalization of a venture or enterprise keeping in mind the quality of methodizing. The one concept firmly oriented towards the creation of values for its customers will conclude with excellence in the target market. Vodafone uses its familiar red logo and retains themes of togetherness, fashion joy and enjoyment throughout its marketing communications. The same uniformity is maintained and followed by Fanta, Microsoft, Nike, Sony and host of other companies. What should be the rational behind this? Is it for fun? Integrated marketing communications see the elements of the communications mix integrated into a coherent whole. As the fight of market shares and quest for product success continue, marketers are employing all the necessary tactics, and methods to give their product a break through, or remain competitive (Brennan, Baines, and Garneau, 2003, Rowley J 2004). One way of doing this is through differentiation, making your product outstanding, by having your values and image (Zineldin M., and Philipson S., 2007). This is known as the marketing communications mix, and forms the basis of marketing (Pelsmacher& Kitchen., 2005) This paper examined the importance of marketing to Vodafone, it current and future market challenges using certain analytical tools and models. Part one of the paper lay emphasis on these models while part three looks at the resources and capabilities that distinguished Vodafone from its competitors. The PESTEL framework can only be used to look at the future impact of environmental factors and that this impact might be

Impact of Visual Effect on Currnet Film Industry Research Paper - 1
Impact of Visual Effect on Currnet Film Industry - Research Paper Example Innovation of visual effects, therefore, has made substantial changes in the film industry resulting into various effects. The paper attempts to analyze both positive and negative effects of visual effects in the film industry. Visual effects (VFX) or the visual F/X involves various processes by which imagery gets manipulated from the context of live shooting. It is a process, which enables editing of live shot movies emergence from old processes, which required directing of movies at exact spots. They involve the integration of live action footage recorded actions during various instances of movie production, with generated imagery from different environments (Ronchi, 2012). According to Christiansen (2008), they are computer-generated software, which enable generation of realistic, costly, but dangerous images that would be difficult to capture in real life. It is, therefore, a step and advancement in technology, which has not only acted as a revelation from the previous limited te chnology to development of new technology. The technology enables production of competent movies independent of life threatening occasions that do not put the life of actors in danger. The invention of visual effects in the film industry has indirectly expanded other sectors such as television series, commercials and games. In as much as this forms, a crucial part of luxury, many companies including middle size and large companies have joined the industry. This has led to increased employment with the people working in the industry increasing up over 70%. This has reduced unemployment, while increasing expertise among many people (Christiansen 2008). The discovery of visual effects in the film industry, therefore, has created more room for employment in the world. In addition, all films have a life around 40 years whether physical film, magnetic tape or an optical disc gets employed. This has posed a challenge in the film industry towards a discovery of mechanisms, which can enable production of longer lasting films. The British Film Institute, for instance, has an archive of 150,000 movies; this is only one third of what they produce. The discovery of visual effects in the industry, however, has remade the film industry allowing storage, re-scratch and re-use of data to meet desired interest. The format offers DPX and Cineon 10 BIT logarithm storage of data, which enable faster quantification of resolution and retrieval. According to the research, 90% of the entire commercial and film industries needs the application of visual effects. The sole purpose of visual effects is to enhance the attractiveness of products including movies and other film products. This enables an achievement of a competitive advantage over other people as people like movies with manipulations to fit the interest of customers (Okun & Zwerman, 2010). The London film industry, for instance, exports the largest number of commercials. It exports 2 billion GPB creating the largest numbers o f position in the city. This is even higher than the bank, which has a GPB less than 2 billion. In the current film, industry, production of a film costs 100 million dollars; however, it is surprising that out of the total lamp sum, 20% to 40% gets designated towards the production of visual effects. The centrality of resonance in various strands of visual effects

Development of Research Questions Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Development of Research Questions - Essay Example This study has therefore posed a broad based primary research question as follows: In order to arrive at meaningful answers to this research question, a qualitative questionnaire survey approach is proposed. This method of inquiry appears to be best suited to answer the main research question posed above, because such a questionnaire directed towards former juvenile prison inmates would help to elicit their first hand views on the nature of the prison programs. Since the questionnaire would also seek to determine what the former inmates are engaged in presently, it would also help in providing some insight into how many of them have been able to move into a gainful existence in terms of employment or education. This would also provide a means of inferring whether the prison programs those former inmates experienced were effective or not. If the survey questionnaire is to function effectively in answering the research question, it must also contain questions that can elicit information on some other aspects. Firstly, the questionnaire must contain demographic information, such as the age and sex of the respondent, as well as their current occupation and education levels. Secondly, the questionnaire should also seek to determine whether these former juvenile inmates have committed crimes after their release from prison. Thirdly, the questionnaire should also attempt to determine why they chose to offend again, if they had pursued that path. Research has suggested that while the experience of incarceration does place juvenile inmates into a position of readiness to accept positive changes and modify their conduct, prison fails to provide these inmates with the skills they need to bring about these changes (Ashker & Kenny, 2008). Their opinions and views of the prison programs will have to be determined, to arrive at in ferences about whether or not they found these

Digital revolutions Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Digital revolutions - Essay Example To understand the consumers, organizations have historically employed a market research strategy. This traditional method involves deploying marketing representatives to the ground to identify the consumersââ¬â¢ needs and advise the business on the best approach to addressing these needs. Advancement of technology has however changed the situation. The invention of the internet, mobile phones, and other technological devices have revolutionized marketing. Today, human beings are connected to one another regardless of the distance. This implies that the physical interaction of the marketer and the target audience is no longer necessary. The interaction and market study happens online and through the technological devices. This has changed the global marketing environment. This paper is a research report on the changes in global marketing that have resulted from the digital revolution. The paper addresses these changes from the perspective of technology and globalization. Marketing involves a great deal of communication. Technologies such as the web, mobile phones, social media, and customer relationship management systems greatly affect modern marketing. The marketing representatives of any company or specific product must communicate with the consumers. The communication helps them to learn and identify the consumersââ¬â¢ needs and requirements. Further, this also helps them to identify the challenges that the product may face in the market and hence adjust their strategies accordingly. In the past, communicating with the consumers demanded costly travels and promotions to issue questionnaires or conduct interviews (Glance et al. 2005). However, with the digital revolution communication technology has made it possible to interact and communicate with consumers in a more effective and cost effective way. Marketers are now targeting social media and the
